MOUTH
The mouth is the opening used for eating and speaking, but Scripture also uses it figuratively for words, testimony, authority, and a spokesman. Expressions involving the mouth may signify praise, accusation, humility, silence, or divine revelation.
Biblical Usage
“By the mouth of” can mean by declaration or testimony; a person may serve as another’s spokesman. Expressions about putting words into the mouth can signify divine instruction, while laying the mouth in the dust denotes humility and laying a hand upon the mouth denotes silent submission. The mouth may also express praise, accusation, wisdom, anguish, or divine rebuke.
