Naphtali, Tribe of
The tribe of Naphtali descended from Jacob’s son Naphtali and received territory in northern Canaan. It participated in Israel’s wilderness organization, later suffered invasion, and its region became associated with Galilee.
Biblical Usage
Naphtali received a territorial allotment, participated in Israel’s military and wilderness organization, and was associated with Galilee of the Gentiles. The region became a principal setting of Jesus’ public ministry. The tribe later suffered invasion and captivity under the Assyrians.
