Nazarene
Nazarene means a person from Nazareth and became a title applied to Jesus. It could express identification, devotion, or contempt; Jesus’ followers were also called the sect of the Nazarenes.
Biblical Usage
The title is applied to Jesus throughout the New Testament and is connected with his life in Nazareth. It carries prophetic associations with the Branch and with the Messiah’s humble and despised condition. The disciples continued to use it, while opponents used it as a term of scorn.
