NEGEB
The Negeb was the dry southern region of Judah, lying between the settled land and the wilderness. It supported pastoral life and appears frequently in the histories of the patriarchs, Israel, David, and the southern tribes.
Biblical Usage
The Negeb was associated with the wanderings and residences of Abram, Hagar, Isaac, and Jacob. The spies passed through it, and Amalekites and other peoples lived there. Simeon’s inheritance lay in it, David operated there, and the region was promised renewed prosperity after Judah’s captivity.
