Nehemiah
Nehemiah was a Jewish cupbearer to the Persian king who became governor of Judah. He led the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s wall, promoted covenant faithfulness, and carried out religious and social reforms.
Biblical Usage
Nehemiah’s work included restoring Jerusalem, arranging public worship, supporting instruction in the Law, renewing the covenant, and enforcing observance of the Sabbath and other reforms. His prayers and brief appeals to God display a deeply religious spirit and dependence upon divine help.
