Nicolaitans
Nicolas was a proselyte from Antioch and one of the seven chosen to serve the Jerusalem church. Scripture does not establish that he founded the Nicolaitan sect.
Biblical Usage
Revelation condemns their deeds and doctrine. They encouraged eating things sacrificed to idols and committing fornication, in opposition to the decree given to Gentile churches. Their influence was compared with the teaching of Balaam.
