NINEVEH, LIBRARY OF
The library of Nineveh was a large collection of clay tablets assembled especially under the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal. Its texts included dictionaries, religious works, laws, science, literature, history, business records, and letters, preserving valuable information about the ancient Near East.
Biblical Usage
The library’s records are important to biblical study because they preserve historical material from peoples closely related to the Hebrews in race and language. Its texts also preserve ancient accounts of the Deluge and other subjects relevant to the ancient Near Eastern setting.
