Oil
The oil tree was a tree distinct from the ordinary olive in some biblical passages. It may refer to the oleaster, pine, or another oil-producing tree; its exact identification is uncertain.
Biblical Usage
Olive oil was used for anointing people, offerings, lamps, medicine, food, and the anointing of the dead. It could signify gladness and prosperity, while its omission marked sorrow. Scripture also uses oil figuratively for abundance, joy, persuasive speech, wastefulness, and famine.
