An olive is the fruit of the olive tree, valued chiefly for its oil. Olives were cultivated widely in Palestine and were important in Israelite food, trade, worship, and daily life.
Biblical Usage
Olives and oliveyards are repeatedly associated with the land, household life, trade, temple construction, ceremonies, and worship. Their oil was used in many ways, and the fruit and tree could represent strength, prosperity, and fruitfulness.
