Ophel
Ophel was a fortified hill or slope south of the temple mount in Jerusalem, between the central valley and the Kidron. It was strengthened by Judah’s kings and inhabited in part by temple servants.
Biblical Usage
Judah’s kings strengthened Ophel, and the area was inhabited by Levites and temple servants after the exile. The name also appears in passages where it may mean a fortified hill, stronghold, or tower.
