Paint

Jewish Life & Customs • Old Testament
Paint in the Bible may refer to cosmetic coloring of the eyes or to pigment used on buildings and shields. Eye paint was associated especially with the adornment of women and with the preparation of Jezebel.
Biblical Usage
Jezebel painted her eyes before her death, and Jeremiah and Ezekiel use eye painting in descriptions associated with adornment, seduction, or unfaithfulness. The Bible also refers to interiors painted with vermilion and to shields that were red, presumably from paint. Job’s daughter Kerenhappuch has a name associated with eye paint.
