PERAEA
Peraea was the district east of the Jordan, extending roughly from Pella in the north to Macherus in the south. In the time of Jesus it was associated with the tetrarchy of Antipas and was a setting for portions of His ministry.
Biblical Usage
Peraea was associated with episodes in Jesus’ ministry east of the Jordan, including His withdrawal from Jerusalem, teaching and intercourse with His disciples, and the raising of questions recorded in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It was probably also the region of His baptism.
