Persecution

Christian Life • Both
Persecution is suffering inflicted on God’s people because of their faith or faithful witness. Scripture records it from the Old Testament through the early church and teaches believers to endure it without returning evil for evil.
Biblical Usage
Scripture presents persecution from the days of Ahab through the suffering of the prophets, Christ, Stephen, the apostles, and the early church. Jesus foretold it as a test of discipleship and pronounced blessing upon those persecuted for righteousness’ sake. Believers are not to spread the gospel by force.
