Plain
A plain is a relatively level area of land, but biblical translations use the term for several different landscapes, including broad valleys, lowlands, tablelands, and the Jordan valley. The exact meaning depends on the Hebrew word and context.
Biblical Usage
The term describes places including the Jordan plain, the plains of Moab and Jericho, the lowland of the Philistines, and level regions east of the Jordan. Some passages traditionally translated “plain” refer more accurately to an oak or terebinth.
