A plow was a light agricultural implement drawn by oxen to break and scratch the soil before sowing. Scripture uses plowing figuratively for labor, judgment, affliction, destruction, peace, and commitment to follow God.
Biblical Usage
Plowing describes ordinary agricultural labor and appears figuratively for affliction, iniquity, destruction, drought, abundance, peace, war, and steadfast commitment. Jesus used putting one’s hand to the plow and looking back as a picture of being unfit for the kingdom.
