Priest
A priest was appointed to minister in sacred things, represent the people before God, and offer sacrifices. The Aaronic priesthood foreshadowed Christ’s perfect priesthood, while believers are called to offer spiritual sacrifices and serve God.
Biblical Usage
Priests represented the people, offered the prescribed sacrifices, taught God’s statutes, and performed the services of the tabernacle and temple. The Levitical priesthood is presented as a type fulfilled in Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice. Believers are also called priests in the sense that they offer praise, thanksgiving, and grateful service, not as a human sacerdotal class.
