A prison was a place of confinement for captives, offenders, debtors, or political prisoners. Biblical prisons included royal cells, fortified chambers, pits, and Roman facilities where apostles were held.
Biblical Usage
Joseph was confined in Egypt, Samson in a Philistine prison, and the apostles in Jewish and Roman prisons. Paul and Silas were placed in the inner prison at Philippi, while other apostles were held in the common prison.
