Proverb

Scripture • Both
A proverb is a concise, memorable saying that expresses wisdom, observation, instruction, or a pointed comparison. Biblical proverbs may also take the form of a parable, riddle, or symbolic teaching.
Biblical Usage
Biblical proverbs arose from common observation, conveyed lessons about conduct, and were used by prophets to sharpen their messages. Scripture also uses the form for satire, warning, and judgment. In Israel’s wisdom tradition, the proverb developed into a recognized vehicle for practical instruction and eventually into extended poetic and philosophical discourse.
