PURITY
Purity includes physical, ceremonial, mental, moral, and spiritual cleanness. Scripture connects clean conduct and a pure heart with faithful worship, and calls God’s people to holiness in body, thought, family life, and conduct.
Biblical Usage
The Law links ceremonial cleansing with worship, while the Psalms join clean hands with a pure heart. Scripture condemns adultery and corrupt sexual conduct, and the prophets use marital unfaithfulness as an image of idolatry. Christ intensifies the call to purity by addressing both outward acts and the thoughts of the heart, and by commanding those who sin to sin no more.
