Reuben
Reuben was Jacob’s firstborn son by Leah and the ancestor of the tribe of Reuben. Though he showed concern for Joseph, he forfeited the privileges of the firstborn through serious sin.
Biblical Usage
Reuben’s history illustrates both the honor of the firstborn and the consequences of serious sin. His intervention saved Joseph from immediate death, and his willingness to guarantee Benjamin’s return showed continuing responsibility toward his family.
