Ring
A ring was worn as an ornament and could also serve as a signet. Because a signet authenticated documents, a ring could symbolize authority, favor, dignity, wealth, or social standing.
Biblical Usage
Rings were used as signs of authority when Pharaoh gave one to Joseph and Ahasuerus gave one to Haman. The ring given to the returning prodigal son expressed favor and dignity, while the golden ring in James represents wealth and social rank.
