A rock is solid stone, often used in Scripture as a picture of strength, refuge, permanence, and protection. God is called the Rock of his people, and the New Testament applies related imagery to Christ.
Biblical Usage
God is repeatedly called the Rock, fortress, refuge, and salvation of his people. The wilderness rock that supplied water is applied by Paul to Christ. Rock also represents refuge, a sanctuary, a stumbling block, hardness, and that which endures. In Daniel, the rock signifies divine origin.
