Ruth was a Moabite widow who loyally stayed with Naomi, returned with her to Bethlehem, and married Boaz. She became the mother of Obed, an ancestor of David and of Jesus Christ.
Biblical Usage
Ruth’s story displays fidelity, industry, kindness, and trust. As a Gentile woman, she became an ancestress of David and is included in Matthew’s genealogy of Christ. Her marriage to Boaz illustrates the operation of Israelite kinship and inheritance customs.
