SACRAMENTS
Sacraments is a later Christian term for sacred rites, especially Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The New Testament does not use the term itself; in traditional Protestant understanding, these two rites were instituted by Christ as visible signs connected with his gospel.
Biblical Usage
The New Testament does not use the term “sacrament,” but Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are associated with the church and with grace. Baptism is connected with forgiveness, cleansing, and spiritual renewal; the Lord’s Supper is described as participation in Christ’s body and blood.
