Sacrifice
A sacrifice is an offering presented to God in worship, thanksgiving, dedication, fellowship, or atonement. Old Testament sacrifices pointed forward to Christ, whose once-for-all offering is presented in the New Testament as the fulfillment of the sacrificial system.
Biblical Usage
Sacrifice appears from the earliest biblical narratives through the patriarchal and Mosaic periods. The Mosaic law organized its forms and rituals. The Epistle to the Hebrews presents the sacrifices as shadows pointing to Christ, the great High Priest, whose one offering for sins perfected those sanctified.
