Sadducees
The Sadducees were a Jewish priestly and aristocratic party during the time of Jesus. They rejected the resurrection and denied angels and spirits, opposed the apostles’ preaching, and disappeared as a distinct group after the destruction of Jerusalem.
Biblical Usage
The Sadducees confronted John the Baptist and Jesus, attempted to ridicule the resurrection, participated in opposition to Jesus, and sought to stop the apostles from preaching Christ’s resurrection. They were represented among the elders and the Sanhedrin.
