Salutation
A salutation is a spoken or written greeting, often expressing blessing, peace, grace, or goodwill. Biblical greetings could be lengthy, but Jesus sometimes instructed His messengers not to pause for extended greetings when the mission was urgent.
Biblical Usage
Biblical greetings included blessings such as “The Lord be with you” and “Go in peace.” The Pharisees valued public salutations, while Jesus forbade prolonged greetings to the Seventy because their mission was urgent, without rejecting proper civil courtesy.
