Samaria was the capital city of the northern kingdom of Israel, founded by King Omri. It was later conquered by Assyria and, in the New Testament period, gave its name to the central region of Palestine.
Biblical Usage
Samaria was repeatedly besieged by the Syrians and was finally captured by the Assyrians after a three-year siege. In the New Testament, Philip preached in the city of Samaria.
