Agriculture & Daily Life • Both
A scorpion is a venomous creature common in dry regions such as the wilderness of Sinai and parts of Palestine. Scripture also uses it as a picture of severe oppression, danger, and spiritual opposition.
Biblical Usage
Scorpions appear with serpents in descriptions of the wilderness and symbolize danger or threatening people. Rehoboam’s “scorpions” refer to a harsher instrument or treatment than a whip, while Jesus uses them in teaching about protection and authority over evil.
