SEVENTY DISCIPLES
The Seventy Disciples were additional followers whom Jesus appointed and sent ahead during His ministry, as recorded in Luke 10. Their temporary mission proclaimed the kingdom and prepared people for Jesus’ work.
Biblical Usage
Luke 10 alone records their appointment and mission. Their work was essentially like that of the Twelve: they were sent to labor in the harvest of proclamation. Their commission did not forbid going to Gentiles, and their service illustrates the responsibility of disciples generally in the work of the kingdom.
