SHAME
Shame is the painful awareness of guilt, disgrace, or dishonor and is repeatedly associated in Scripture with sin and divine judgment. Repentance and God’s pardon can remove shame, while unrepentant wickedness leads to lasting disgrace.
Biblical Usage
Scripture repeatedly presents shame as the consequence of sin, idolatry, faithlessness, cruelty, self-exaltation, and trust in earthly power. It may fall on nations and on Israelites who reject God. Yet God is said to remove shame in pardon, while unconfessed sin leads to shame and everlasting contempt.
