Shiloh

Places & Geography • Old Testament
Shiloh was an important Ephraimite sanctuary where the tabernacle and ark remained for much of the period of the judges. The name also occurs in the difficult prophecy of Genesis 49:10, traditionally associated with the coming ruler or Messiah.
Biblical Usage
The ark remained at Shiloh from the latter days of Joshua until the time of Samuel. The land west of the Jordan was distributed there among the tribes. After the ark was captured by the Philistines, Shiloh declined and became an example of divine judgment. Genesis 49:10 is traditionally understood by some as referring to the coming Messiah.
