SILVERSMITH
Agriculture & Daily Life • New Testament
A silversmith was a craftsman who worked with silver. In Acts 19:24, Demetrius was a leading member of the silversmiths’ guild at Ephesus, which made small silver shrines of Diana.
Biblical Usage
In Acts, the silversmiths’ trade was connected with the making of small silver models of temples for Diana, and the gospel’s progress threatened this commercial interest.
