Slime
Slime in the Bible refers to bitumen or asphalt, a sticky substance used as mortar in building and as waterproofing for Moses’ basket. Bitumen pits were found in the region of the Dead Sea.
Biblical Usage
The builders of the plain of Shinar used slime as cement. Bitumen pits are mentioned in the vale of Siddim, and Jochebed used slime and pitch to make Moses’ ark impervious to water.
