Sparrow
The sparrow represents the small, common birds sold cheaply in the marketplace. Jesus used their value and God’s care for them to assure his disciples that the Father also cares for them.
Biblical Usage
Sparrows appear among the inexpensive offerings available to the poor. Jesus used their sale and God’s knowledge of even one fallen bird to assure His disciples that they are not forgotten and are worth more than many sparrows. The Psalms also use the bird’s nest and solitary condition in poetic comparisons.
