Sponge
A sponge is a soft, porous marine substance. At the crucifixion, a sponge soaked with sour wine was raised to Jesus on a reed.
Biblical Usage
A sponge appears only in the accounts of Jesus’ crucifixion. It was used to hold sour wine and was raised to Jesus on a reed.
