Surety
A surety is one who pledges responsibility for another person or obligation. Scripture warns against careless financial suretyship, while presenting Jesus as the surety of the better covenant.
Biblical Usage
Judah pledged himself for Benjamin’s safe return; Job and Hezekiah appealed to God as their surety; and Jesus is called the surety of a better covenant. Proverbs repeatedly warns against becoming security for another without caution.
