Tarsus
Tarsus was the chief city of Cilicia and the birthplace of the apostle Paul. It was a prosperous commercial and educational center situated on the river Cydnus.
Biblical Usage
Paul identified himself as a citizen of Tarsus and described it as no mean city. The New Testament records Tarsus as his birthplace and early residence before his missionary activity.
