The temple was the sacred house used for worship, especially the sanctuary in Jerusalem built on Mount Moriah. Scripture also uses the term figuratively for Christ’s body, believers, the church, and heaven.
Biblical Usage
The Jerusalem temple is called the house of the LORD, a house of prayer, and a house of sacrifice. The New Testament uses temple figuratively for Christ’s body, believers, the Church, and heaven, and also mentions the heathen temple of Diana.
