Temple, the Second
Temple & Tabernacle • Old Testament
The Second Temple was rebuilt in Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile under Zerubbabel and Jeshua. Its foundation was laid after the return, and the completed house was dedicated amid rejoicing.
Biblical Usage
The returning community restored the altar and rebuilt the temple as the one house of God. Its latter glory was understood as spiritual rather than merely material, in connection with Christ’s presence and the worship of God.
