THRESHING-FLOOR
A threshing-floor was a hard, level place where grain was threshed and winnowed. Several important biblical events occurred there, including Jacob’s mourning, Ruth’s meeting with Boaz, David’s altar at Araunah’s floor, and the selection of the later Temple site.
Biblical Usage
Jacob was mourned at the threshing-floor of Atad; Ruth met Boaz at his threshing-floor; and David built an altar on Araunah’s threshing-floor, which later became the site of the Temple. Uzzah died near another threshing-floor, and threshing-floors could be targets for raiders.
