Tobit, Book Of
The Book of Tobit is an inter-testamental Jewish didactic narrative about Tobit, his son Tobias, and their families in exile. It emphasizes faithfulness, prayer, almsgiving, burial of the dead, and God’s providential care, but is not regarded as canonical in Protestant Bibles.
Biblical Usage
The book presents moral instruction rather than reliable history. Its teaching stresses faithfulness, prayer, almsgiving, observance of the Law, and hope for the restoration of the Jewish people.
