Measures & Money • Both
Tribute is a tax or required payment imposed by a ruler or government. In the New Testament the term may refer to the temple half-shekel or to taxes imposed by Rome.
Biblical Usage
Jesus distinguished the temple tribute from the tax paid to Caesar. The temple rate supported worship, while Roman tribute included census and annual taxes imposed on the Jewish people.
