TRIPOLIS
Tripolis, meaning “triple city,” was a Phoenician coastal city divided into three quarters associated with Tyre, Sidon, and Aradus. It appears in the history of the Maccabean period and was an important commercial center.
Biblical Usage
Tripolis appears in the history of the Maccabean period. Demetrius entered its harbor, took the city and surrounding country, and killed Antiochus V and Lysias.
