Tryphon
Tryphon, also called Diodotus, was a usurper who seized the Syrian throne in the second century BC. He treacherously opposed Jonathan and Simon and eventually died by suicide.
Biblical Usage
In 1 Maccabees, Tryphon first allied with Jonathan and Simon but treacherously captured and killed Jonathan. He later murdered Antiochus VI and claimed the Syrian throne, opposing Simon and Antiochus VII.
