Uzziah

People & Groups • Old Testament
Uzziah was a long-reigning king of Judah who prospered while seeking God but later presumptuously entered the temple to burn incense. God struck him with leprosy, and he lived separated from the temple until his death.
Biblical Usage
Uzziah initially did what was right before the Lord, but later entered the sanctuary to burn incense. When he resisted the priests, he was struck with leprosy and lived in a separate house until his death. His experience showed that the king could not assume the priest’s office.
