Wages
Government & Society • Both
Wages are compensation for labor, paid in money, provisions, or goods. Biblical law required employers to pay workers fairly and promptly, and strongly condemned withholding or exploiting a laborer’s hire.
Biblical Usage
The law required wages to be paid honestly and promptly and condemned withholding a laborer’s hire. Jesus used a denarius as a day’s wage in the parable of the vineyard, and the New Testament also speaks of wages figuratively as reward or judgment.
