Baruch ben Neriah

Jeremiah 36 recounts that Jeremiah dictated to Baruch all the words God had spoken to him, and Baruch wrote them on a scroll. Because Jeremiah was restricted from entering the Temple, Baruch read the scroll publicly and then before royal officials. King Jehoiakim later cut and burned the scroll section by section. God commanded Jeremiah and Baruch to produce another scroll, adding further words. Baruch also witnessed and preserved Jeremiah's purchase of a field during the Babylonian siege, an enacted sign of future restoration. Jeremiah 45 records a personal word to Baruch when he was discouraged: he was warned not to seek great things for himself but was promised his life as a prize wherever he went.
