Jehoram
Fifth King of Judah
A king of Judah, son of Jehoshaphat, whose reign was marked by violence, idolatry, revolt, and judgment.
Biography
Jehoram married a daughter of Ahab and followed the ways of the northern royal house. After becoming established, he killed his brothers and other leaders. Edom and Libnah revolted from Judah. Chronicles says he led Judah into unfaithfulness and received a written warning from Elijah announcing judgment. Philistines and Arabs invaded, carrying away possessions and members of his household. Jehoram then suffered a severe intestinal disease and died after eight years, without the honor accorded better kings.
Biblical Significance
Jehoram's reign shows the destructive spiritual influence of alliance with Ahab's house and the consequences of abandoning the Lord. Yet God did not destroy David's dynasty because of His covenant promise.
