Amaziah

Amaziah executed the servants who had murdered his father but obeyed the Law by sparing their children. Preparing for war against Edom, he dismissed hired Israelite troops after a man of God warned him not to rely on them. Judah then defeated Edom. Amaziah nevertheless brought back Edomite gods and worshiped them, prompting prophetic rebuke. Proud after victory, he challenged Jehoash of Israel to battle despite a warning to stay home. Judah was defeated, Amaziah was captured, and part of Jerusalem's wall was broken down. Years later conspirators pursued and killed him at Lachish.
